Money is everything

Money matters and that’s reality.

So says Dee Sanele of Fiaga Aleisa.

“Everything is going well on our side,” he tells Village Voice.

“We are always at peace and we don’t have any youth roaming around causing fights. Our village is doing okay but I think what is concerning is how we always have to pay for everything that we need.”

Dee works for one of the families in his village as a farmer; not only does he work the land, he is also responsible for taking care of the cattle.

“For us on this side, our usual routine every day is trying to get our work done before noon. That’s one way we can protect and avoid ourselves from getting sick.”

Dee says that honesty is an important policy in doing his work.

“For me it is important to be truthful whenever I do my work because if I lose this job; I don’t know how my family is going to survive.

“I’m a big believer when it comes to life because I was at a very difficult stage, and you know what, it’s very true because looking for a job, and I mean any job doesn’t come easy anymore.

“Not only that, the cost of living is so high that what we earn is barely enough to cover everything.

“That’s why it is important for me to do well and to be honest with my work. I can’t afford to lose it over foolish acts.

“Working may seem and feel like the hardest thing to do, but in reality having no job is the hardest thing you have to go through because you don’t know how you are going to support your family when you have no money.

“It is important that you must always have a way to earn a living otherwise, you either end up depending on almost anyone for support or your family starves.

He added: “Money matters in all aspects of life and without money, we will have nothing.”

Dee said we needed money to pay the bills, buy food and drinks, pay for the children’s education and family contributions to village and church obligations.

“So working to get yourself what you need is important because if we don’t work, we don’t have any means of finance.”
