Family praying for water and electricity

A 56-year-old mother is asking the government for help.

She is desperate for a reliable water supply system and electricity for her family.

Anovale Aiono, from the village of Fasito’o-uta, says they usually get water from their neighbours by the coast.

But even that is a struggle because her sons are often at work.

“The other way we get water from is when it rains and that is why we have been enjoying the rainy days recently, because of the water,” Anovale said.

“I am trying my best to get a water tank or running water for our family because water is needed at all times.”

“I am also asking assistance for my electricity because we are still using kerosene lamps.”

Mrs. Anovale said her family lived in the coastal area, but she and her husband decided to move inland with their two children.

“We have been living here for about two years now and we have enjoyed it so much to live and work on this land.”

“This is our family’s land and we are here to live on and also to work on it to support our family.”

Mrs. Aiono said food and money was not really a struggle for her and the family.

“Both of our two children are working and supporting our family in terms of finance, one is a policeman and the other one works at the Aggies Casino.”

“Food is definitely not a struggle as well for us because we have another plantation that my husband is working on and there is one around our house.”

“We have so much here in our place that is helping us cope with the expensive cost of living we have now.”
