Couple amazed with local hospitality
Meet couple Merete and Christian Porup.
It’s just 12 hours in Samoa since they landed and they’ve been amazed with the hospitality of the locals.
“I love Samoan people,” Christian said.
The Danes couple was also impressed with the Samoa Tourism Authority’s show that highlighted the culture and traditional handicrafts of Samoa.
“It’s interesting to see how they make all those cultural stuff like what we’ve just watched inside those houses (faleo’o).”
The couple was also interested in seeing the main market and how it worked.
“It was nice and beautiful; lots of new things to see around the market and people are very friendly and welcoming,” Christian said.
The couple learned about Samoa through a television programme.
“Back home there was a television programme about some families who have been sailing around the Pacific and they went to Samoa and then we talked about where we should go,” Christian said.
“We talked about Australia and New Zealand and we just thought that it would be so nice to go around here and we’d like to get a little bit of low key and relax.”
“We are also planning to go on site seeing around the islands, especially to all the beaches to go beaching with our daughter and have some family time together on the warm beaches.”
For today, the family will drive around the island and also travel to Savaii for scuba diving.
Mr. Porup is a financial adviser in a bank back in Europe while Mrs. Porup works in an insurance company.
Their trip will be around the Pacific and Samoa is the Polynesian island they decided to visit first.
