As Samoa marked the celebration of Mother's Day, political parties such as the Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) and the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) have expressed well wishes for all the mothers of Samoa.

The messages from both parties were issued on their official Facebook pages on Sunday.

In a statement issued by F.A.S.T., it states that, “we stand on the shoulders of mothers that paved the way, mothers who did not accept the status quo and believed that there was more to being a woman.”

“Mothers who endured the pain of becoming a leader or representatives of their village or country because some people did not think women could not lead,” read the statement.

It also added that, “we could be on the eve of having Samoa's first woman Prime Minister but until then we will continue to push for democracy, women empowerment and equality for all.”

F.A.S.T. also conveyed well wishes for other women running from different political parties.

“We [would] also like to say to wish the strong women that are representing each constituency in Samoa under different political parties, H.R.P.P., Tautua Samoa, Samoa First and Samoa Sovereignty, we may be wearing different colours but we represent the small percentage of women in this male dominated political arena, Happy Mother’s Day!

“I leave you with this; let's be very clear: strong men - men who are truly role models - don't need to put down women to make themselves feel powerful. People who are truly strong lift others up. People who are truly powerful bring others together - Michelle Obama.”

In a video that was also uploaded on the H.R.P.P. Facebook page, it featured four women candidates of H.R.P.P. which include Gatoloaifaana Amataga Alesana-Gidlow, Leota Aeau Tima Leavai, Faaulusau Rosa Lavea, and Aliimalemanu Alofa Tuuau expressing well wishes for all the mothers of Samoa.

Faaulusau said that a mother's good works will show through the wellbeing and prosperity of her family.

“I want to relay well wishes to all the mothers of Samoa especially in commemorating our special day on Sunday but also to all the mothers of my constituency, may God bless you all,” said Gatoloaifaana.

Leota reminded all women that they are capable of anything they choose to pursue, while Aliimalemanu delivered her well wishes with a reminder that women are the soothsayers and problem solvers of a family.
