Journalists in Samoa have been invited to participate in an online seminar focused on public reporting and access to information on Wednesday afternoon.

“Knowledge Sharing Webinar for Pacific Media: Public Reporting and Access to Information” is the fourth such online event in a series for working journalists in the Pacific reporting on integrity and corruption issues.

The series is an initiative of the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (U.N.-P.R.A.C.) Project and the Pacific Islands News Association (P.I.N.A.).

“For the first time since we launched our first joint webinar, this Wednesday, M.A.S.I. (the Media Association of Solomon Islands) will host its members at the conference room of the A.P.T.C. (Australia Pacific Training Coalition) in Honiara,” a statement from organisers reads.

“This we hope will be the start of a practice of getting our National Media Associations that are members of P.I.N.A. involved in the hosting of their members for such important [training].”

President of M.A.S.I., Georgina Kekea, is scheduled to speak on how Pacific media organisations are seeking to maximise the impact of public reporting.

Dr. Sonja Stefanovska-Trajanoska, the regional U.N. Development Programme anti-Corruption Adviser, will open the seminar.

A member of M.A.S.I. will provide an introduction to the Pacific Anti-Corruption Journalists Newtowrk (P.A.C.J.N.).

Carl DeFaria, a public reporting consultant with the United Nations, will present on international and regional reporting commitments in the Pacific.

Participants are invited to ask questions.

The project is supported by the Australian Government and the New Zealand Aid Programme.

Interested journalists may direct inquiries to Samisoni G. Pareti, coordinator for the P.A.C.J.N. at [email protected].
