Who is your Prime Minister, Deputy P.M?

The General Elections is the main talking point in Samoa today. With four more days to go, a lot of people have already made up their minds about who they think will lead our country after the election. Out of all the candidates, four have already secured their spots in Parliament. They are Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Fagaivalu Kenrick Samu and Lautafi Fio Purcell. Who, out of the four, should be the Prime Minister and who would you like to see as Deputy Prime Minister? And why? Sarafina Sanerivi asked people in today’s Street Talk and this is what they said:

I can’t think of anyone else better to be our Prime Minister other than Tuilaepa. He is a great leader and I think that he should still continue on being our Prime Minister. He has a lot of experience and we’ve seen all the development in Samoa under his leadership. As for a deputy Prime Minister, I think Fiame Mata’afa should be selected as our new Deputy Prime Minister.

I definitely think it is Fiame’s turn to lead our country. She should be our next Prime Minister and I’m not saying this because she is a woman. No! I think that if people are saying that they want change, then Fiame is that change. And I think that she has what it takes to lead our people and move our country to the next level.

I am a big fan of Tuilaepa’s speeches because he is a very straight-forward person and I think that is exactly what our people need; leaders who are straight-forward. We often hear our parents saying that, a loving parent is someone who never stops telling off his or her children to do the right thing.

And Tuilaepa has proved that he really loves our people especially the youth of Samoa. Whenever he speaks to the youth, he is always telling them to stay out of trouble and encouraging them to go to school. To me, that is a good leader.

Therefore, I would be so happy to have him as our Prime Minister again. As for our Deputy Prime Minister, I think Fiame should step up to the role.

People have different views and opinions on who they think should be Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

But as for me, I strongly believe that history is about to be made after the election with Fiame Naomi Mata’afa as our new Prime Minister.

She entered parliament when she was young and she is still there up to now. Growing up, I always see her on T.V and I admire her and I think she will make a great leader with all her experience in Parliament. As for Deputy Prime Minister, I think Tuilaepa will be the perfect man for the job so that he can be of great help for Fiame.

Tuilaepa should still remain as our Prime Minister. He is a knowledgeable man and he is one of the greatest leaders in the Pacific. He may have been in parliament for a long time but like I said, he is very smart and he has a lot of new ideas on how to develop our country. I cannot think of anyone to replace him. For Deputy Prime Minister, I would say Lautafi Fio Purcell should be our next Deputy Prime Minister.

To me, I want Fiame to be our next Prime Minister. That will prove that women are also capable of doing what men do. And I am not being biased because I’m a woman and Fiame is a woman as well. No! She’s been in parliament for a long time now, and her parents are not strangers in the world of politics. I think that after all her years of practice and serving our country, I think now is her time to shine and bring change into our country. We want a new leader with new ideas to help develop our people.
