Members of the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) are scheduled to gather for their first meeting Sunday evening since preliminary results of the general election were released on Friday.

The meeting follows a post-General Election press conference hosted on Friday night by party leader, Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lepa and caretaker Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi.

M.P. for Faleata No. 3, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi confirmed that a meeting did not take place on Saturday since the General Election and that members were resting.

Members will convene on Sunday evening at the H.R.P.P. ‘Maota i Petesa’ Headquarters in Sogi, he said.

Lealailepule, the caretaker Associate Minister of Communications and Information Technology (M.C.I.T.) is one of three candidates who secured a seat in Parliament early on as he ran unopposed.

Tuilaepa’s and Lealailepule’s were the only two seats secured by H.R.P.P. before voters went to the polls.

Preliminary results from the General Election indicate this his senior, the caretaker Minister of M.C.I.T. and H.R.P.P. member, Afamasaga Rico Tupa’i, lost his Aana Alofi No. 4 seat to Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) candidate Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster.

Afamasaga sat in on the press conference hosted by Tuilaepa Friday night.

The Samoa Observer was unsuccessful in its attempt to reach Afamasaga for an interview on the preliminary results of the Aana Alofi No. 4 race.

Tolesulusulu showed an early lead over the four days of pre-polling and together with Friday’s results, he won more than 200 votes to beat Afamasaga with an 828 total.

Afamasaga collected 617 votes.

His fellow H.R.P.P. candidate for the Aana Alofi No. 4 seat Toleafoa Pili Asiata had 355 votes. Independent candidate Taufono Lealiie Sapini garnered 150 votes and Tamanana Afamasaga Tasolo with Tautua Samoa had 39 votes.

Preliminary results show that in addition to the two seats retained (unopposed) by Lealailepule and Tuilaepa, the H.R.P.P. secured 22 seats for a total of 25.
