Schools that qualified for the Schools National XV Rugby Championship 2021 next week have been named with only two colleges fielding three teams in the Boys U14, U16 and U18 Divisions

Leififi College and St Joseph’s College have teams named in the Boys U14, U16 and U18 Divisions while the Safata College has teams in the Boys U14 and 18 Divisions and U18 Girls Division but not Boys U14.

A total of 13 educational institutions have teams in this year’s championship, which is the culmination of six weeks of intense schools regional zone qualification round from February 18–26, where the top two teams from four divisional age grades in each regional zone will qualify for the National  Championships.

The Boys U18, U16 and U14 Divisions will kick off next Monday with the quarterfinals and semi-finals next Wednesday and the finals on Friday.

For the girls it will be a 10-a-side tournament where two teams from Zone B, three from Zone C and four from Zone D qualified for the National Championship.

The U18 Girls Division competition will be played in three pools of three teams before proceeding to semi-finals and finals in the playoffs. It will kick off on Wednesday with the finals on Friday.

The Samoa Rugby Union Events and Competitions Coordinator, Seiuli Salesa Seiuli, acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture for including rugby in the schools’ annual calendar.

He also acknowledged the support of the Samoa Secondary Schools Principals Association and Samoa Schools Rugby Union led by President Siakisone Taleni and his executive committee.

“We thank the four regional school zones and their executive committees and most importantly their individual zone rugby competitions committees that coordinated the Regional School Zones Qualification round for six weeks,” he said.

“We also thank the schools that have embraced girl’s rugby especially in Zone B, Zone C, and Zone D who are well represented in the 2021 nationals as we push to have more schools participating in girl’s rugby.”

Seiuli also thanked the participating students, teachers and parents who supported the regional zone qualification round.
