A father’s duty within the family
Youths need to prioritize their families.
Asolua Lam Cheung believes that when young people do this, everything else will fall into place.
The 27-year-old of Tuanai and Malie is a father of three, with two of his children attending primary school.
“I’ve been with my wife since 2000 and family is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said to Village Voice.
“At the moment everything is good. I work at Electric Power Corporation and I am thankful to have a family beside me to support me along the way.”
The only concern Asolua has is with the youths.
“Even though I am a father now and have my own family, whenever I go back home to my parents, I always advise my younger siblings on what to do because I am their eldest brother after all.”
“There are seven of us and only three are working and I do worry about them because I know what it’s like to be influenced by the many changes nowadays. I am concerned especially when it comes to my siblings at school who are still trying their best to complete their education.”
“I always remind them about the word of the Bible that says ‘Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams’.”
“I want them to have obedience for our parents because honestly that is the best thing in this world that we can offer and I think if we know how to live that way then we can avoid getting into trouble.”
“The world is not safe anymore and therefore we must always look out for our families and remind them of what matters whenever we can.”
“This life is going in the fast lane and it’s a scary thing so we have to stick with God and families because trust me, no one loves you like God and your own family,” he said.
