Help needed with water please
Water is a basic necessity.
For Alofa Fa’atau, from the sub-village of Vaota at Letogo, it’s a basic necessity he doesn’t have.
Without a water tank, what other option does he have?
“As you can see, the scarcity of water in this area is a big problem. The problem has been here for years,” he said.
“I grew up here with this problem of not having access to clean water. And still up to now, the people from this area are still trying to cope with this problem.”
He went on to say that the people living at Vaota rejoice when it is the rainy season.
“But it’s very difficult when it’s sunny. The rain helps us out a lot with getting water.
“We have also made requests to the Members of Parliament for our district in regards to water supply for this side of the village, but until now, we still haven’t heard from them.”
Alofa went on to say that getting water when it is not raining is very hard.
The families there currently rely heavily on an unsanitary shallow stream for water posing many health risks.
Nevertheless, Alofa said this problem is bad especially for the children.
“We say that water is life,” he said.
“And without water, we can’t survive. Therefore, we try very hard to get water for our family each and every day.
“Imagine having to deal with all the normal routines and daily struggles in life and then on top of all that, we have to fetch water for the family.
“That’s life for us here. I feel for the students because schools are going to start very soon, I know it’s hard work for them to get water in the morning.”
Alofa stressed they desperately need help with the water supply at Vaota.
“We would love to enjoy having access to good clean water like the others do.
“Having water tanks would be nice too to catch the water from the rain for us. But we are hoping for a better tomorrow for all of us here.
“We are getting tired of requesting and not seeing any action. All we want is to enjoy having clean water .”
