Renee and Dion back for Samoa
Everything about Samoa is why Renee and Dion Cameron keep coming back to the islands.
This time, they came to Samoa attend Renee’s little sister’s wedding.
The wedding was held in the Le Vasa Resort last Friday, where Renee and Dion stayed first, before they came to spend the rest of their trip at the Taumeasina Island Resort.
The couple live in New Zealand, where the temperature is about four degrees this time of the year.
Their trip to Samoa is as well an escape from the weather back home and the stress and busyness of the city life.
“We booked a few nights here to have a bit of a break,” Dion explained.
Because it is the second time for Renee and the third time for Dion on the island, they haven’t gone out to explore much.
“We spent the time pretty much relaxing,” Renee said.
The first time Dion came to visit the island was about 11 years ago and the second time he came with Renee was around five years ago.
“Five years ago when I first came it was because of another wedding. So I came for weddings so far,” Renee said.
“It is a beautiful place, I like the lifestyle because people are so slow and laid back and at home they are really fast and all the things have to be done, so it is cool to come and relax,” Dion explained to Dear Tourist.
They noted some changes since they last came.
“The airport since the last time we came five years ago changed a lot. The Taumeasina Island Resort wasn’t here.”
“It is definitely becoming more for tourists; a lot more English speaking people are here now. I think Samoan people always have their traditional values and the Samoan language as a part of it. So hopefully they don’t let them go through the changes with time.”
“It is probably at a good point now, where there is some English a mix of both to communicate somehow, it is a pretty good mix how it is now. It is probably the perfect mix.”
“I would not say that I missed anything as a tourist. You can choose what you want to do, you can have the traditional way or a resort, and it is something for everyone.”
Renee added: “Even just town, the traffic lights and the roads are so smooth. There were not a lot of traffic lights before.”
“It feels like now the town is really spread out, it is much bigger,” Dion said.
“The airport is impressive, it is so good. It was definitely necessary to change the airport. It is quite a big difference and it was worth it, I would say. It is beautiful, very nice,” Dion said.
The couple left the island yesterday.
