The Lepea Football Club had much to celebrate yesterday.

After a year full of achievements and meeting goals, the team can sit back and reminisce on all the hard work they have put in to make it this far.

The celebration, which was held at Lepea Primary School, saw many young hard working Lepea football players receive much deserved prizes.

According to the team’s spokesperson, Lynetta Laumea-Faaiuaso one major highlight was seeing their men’s squad become a premier men’s team and losing only one game within the tournament.

The club also took part in the tournaments held by the Football Federation of Samoa (F.F.S.) and managed to secure great ranks and special individual prizes.

Lynetta added while recognizing the hard work with the prize giving ceremony, it will also motivate the players to work even harder next time around.

“The purpose of today (yesterday) is simply to recognize all the hard work of our players,” she said.

“This will also provide the teams with motivation and as we move onto next year, they can get ready to put in some more hard work.”

“We want every player to become successful and to make great use of their athletic skills on the football field.”

Asked for a few of the highlights for the clubs, Lynetta said there was too much to name.

“One of our players, Isaac Faaiuaso, who played for our Under 9 team, became the M.V.P. of the F.F.S. tournament,” she said.

“Our Under 9 team ranked sixth which was a great improvement for them, our under 14 team ranked fourth in that same tournament which was great for us.”

“Our champions, the under 17 team, secured the number one spot in F.F.S. tournament, a few of our boys managed to get special awards like Daniele Scaroni who was M.V.P. and Kawasaki Saofaiga who was the top scorer and awarded the golden boot award.”

“All our other teams have achieved so much so we want to reward our players for all the hard work they have put into the team.”

Lynetta added the main purpose for forming such a club was to provide the young people with a platform to excel in football and maybe even form careers out of it.”

“We are trying to get together and use football as a tool to target grassroots players,” she said.

“We understand that there are so many out there who have the talent for the sport and we want to give them the opportunity to play for their village.”

“We also understand that there are so many out there who cannot get qualifications or proper education to secure jobs so we want to provide them with a chance to make a career out of football.”

And with all the smiles on the club members faces as they received their prizes, they wish to thank everyone who made 2017 possible.

“We are grateful to the Lepea village council for their support in providing us with a field to train on,” Lynetta said.

“I would like to thank the committee for making this all happen. Our goal was to form a football team for our village and we finally managed to come together and put in the hard work for the young football talents of Lepea.”

“We would also like to thank our sponsors, Scott Easthope for the uniforms, F.F.S. for support, Andrew Mobberly and family for the soccer shoes, Federal Pacific Finance for donations, Sylvester Nansen for our logo, Loibl Motors, Alnima Motors and everyone else who have shown a heart for the young people of Lepea.”
