Meteorology Division forecasts heavy rain
The Samoa Meteorological Division has forecast heavy rain for the country due to the existence of a low pressure-system in the north of the country.
In a severe weather information bulletin issued on Saturday morning (local time), the Meteorological Division said it is monitoring the low pressure system north of Samoa.
“A trough of low-pressure system with developing showers and thunderstorms analyzed just to the North of Samoa,” states the information bulletin. “This system is expected to move southwards towards the island later today.
“An increase of cloud cover and showery activities is anticipated in the afternoon. Hence, the heavy rain advisory will remain valid for all of the country but it may upgrade into a warning in the afternoon (Saturday).”
The Meteorological Division added that potential impacts include heavy downpours with poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways.
Samoa, according to the worldweatheronline.com, had cloud coverage of 75 per cent on Saturday and has forecast moderate rain countrywide for Saturday as well as Sunday 27 December.
