Beale leaves Waratahs to join English team Wasps

Australia star Kurtley Beale is joining English team Wasps in a one-year deal that British media are reporting makes him the highest-paid rugby player in the country.

Wasps announced the signing of the 27-year-old Beale on Friday. He has the option of a 12-month extension to the deal. The utility back will leave the NSW-based Waratahs.

British newspaper The Times says Beale will be paid 1.5 million pounds ($2.15 million).

Beale has played 60 times for Australia, meaning he will still be able to play for his country despite playing abroad.

Beale says "I have always loved playing in England and the recent World Cup was an amazing experience. The passion for the game in Europe is huge and I want to be a part of it."
