The Vodafone N.U.S. Business House Volleyball Tournament 2020 concluded this week with the Samoa Fire and Emergency Service Authority emerging the winning men's team and the Ministry of Health for the women's team.

The tournament was held at the N.U.S. Gymnasium and concluded on Wednesday night.

Commander Aleaga Fuafiva told the Samoa Observer in an interview on Thursday that F.E.S.A. acknowledges the initiative by N.U.S. and Vodafone as it is fitting to advocate for health issues.

"We acknowledge and thank the N.U.S. committee for such a great initiative in the midst of all that is going on with the global pandemic," he said

"It was indeed a very necessary initiative for companies, and although it was a competition, the determination was evident amongst other teams as a team effort to address obesity, non-communicable diseases, and communicable diseases.

"It was a really great initiative because not only it addressed health issues, it also established good companionship with people from other ministries."

F.E.S.A. also competed in another volleyball tournament hosted by [the Samoa Independent Seventh Day Adventist Church (S.I.S.D.A.C.] earlier this year and had also won first place to which they were later invited to participate in the N.U.S. Vodafone tournament.

"We also won another volley-ball tournament earlier this year and we later got an invitation to participate in the NUS volleyball tournament that finished on Wednesday," Fuafiva said

"For the S.I.S.D.A.C. volleyball tournament that held first, we were able to take two teams and then the recent one that had just concluded, we were only able to take one team because of our busy schedule."

Their men's team took home the championship cup and a prize-money of $1000 on Wednesday night after winning two sets in the finals against the Legislative Assembly team.

"Our men’s team came out on the top with no losses. For the finals game, we played the team from the Legislative Assembly. It wasn’t a close game though because we took out the two sets consecutively. So we won the first and last set and I thank the team from LA for a competitive game," Fuafiva added

They have competed in other various sports tournaments such as touch rugby, soccer and now volleyball as long as their schedules allow.

"We’ve also competed in other tournaments such as touch rugby, soccer and now volleyball," he said

"We try and compete every year depending on our schedules though.

"However, what we strongly emphasise through our participation in various sports tournament is to maintain the fitness within the workplace and our response to emergencies especially with the line of work that we do."
