A letter to The Rock

Five-year-old Angelou Brown from Christchurch New Zealand sent a letter to The Rock Johnson and has also included a gift for him.

Angelou Brown is the nephew of the former half-back for the Toa Samoa, Fa'amanu Brown. He has been away for nine years fulfilling his rugby career and is now home taking care of his sick mother

A 2-minute video has gone viral all over social media of young Angelou reading out the letter he sent to The Rock.

The five-year-old also sent The Rock a t-shirt as a gift which shines the light on violence against women because his nana had gone through a similar experience.

"My dad is Samoan so I’m pretty sure you’re his cousin and since you’re part of the aiga, I thought I’ll send you a gift," Angelou said in his letter to The Rock

"It’s a t-shirt, not just any t-shirt. This t-shirt my dad and my uncle’s wear to encourage other men to treat girls well.

"Men all around NZ and the Pacific and even the whole wide world because his Mum, my Nana, had a sad life when they were growing up with lots of fights at home.

"It was sad for my Dad to watch her get hurt a lot and she had to go away lots to many refuges."

According to Angelou, his father has made it his mission to help other men to heal. His grandmother has been diagnosed with lung cancer and his father wanted to share with the world her story.

"My dad says that it’s his mission now to help other men to heal now so their wives don’t have sad eyes like Nana did," he said

"My nana is very sick at the moment, she has lung cancer and my dad told her that he would tell her story to the world."

The t-shirts are distributed by  "She Is Not Your Rehab", a non-religious and non-legislative movement whose mission is to impact the culture around abusive relationships, domestic violence and unhealthy ideals of masculinity.

The t-shirts are part of a campaign in honour of White ribbon day highlighting on Pacific communities to unite worldwide and stand against violence against women.

The video has 5.2K likes and 3.8K shares on Facebook and 9.8K views on Instagram.

The letter Angelou sent to The Rock reads:

Dear Mr Rock,

My name is Angelou Brown and I am 5 years old.

I live in Christchurch NZ and my big cousin Azariah, he’s helping me to write this letter.

My dad is Samoan so I’m pretty sure you’re his cousin and since you’re part of the aiga, I thought I’ll send you a gift.

It’s a t-shirt, not just any t-shirt. This t-shirt my dad and my uncle’s wear to encourage other men to treat girls well.

Men all around NZ and the Pacific and even the whole wide world because his Mum, my Nana had a sad life when they were growing up with lots of fights at home.

It was sad for my Dad to watch her get hurt a lot and she had to go away lots to many refuges.

My dad says that it’s his mission now to help other men to heal now so their wives don’t have sad eyes like Nana did.

My nana is very sick at the moment, she has lung cancer and my dad told her that he would tell her story to the world.

She won’t be forgotten, she always tells us that God can make sad things good.

This is what these T-shirts are because I think you are the strongest man on the planet that many men look up to.

If you wear this t-shirt, then I think they will listen to you and we can help houses everywhere be violence-free.

My sister has shown me that you will look good wearing this so I hope it gets to you even if you live in an island far away.

So from our aiga to yours, we send our alofa.

Love,

 Angelou
