A heavy rain warning for all of Samoa and a flood advisory were issued by the Samoa Meteorological Division Tuesday evening.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin “Severe Weather Information Number 1” on Tuesday, the weather office warned of heavy rain for all areas of Samoa that could lead to flooding for all major rivers and vulnerable areas.

The rains are attributed to an active convergence zone that lies over the country, which extends from a low pressure system further Northwest of the islands.

Thunderstorms are expected to persist into the night.

The system may continue to provide showers of rain with deteriorating weather conditions as well as thunderstorms for this evening into tonight, the weather bulletin says.

However; rain may be heavy but will not be continuous for tonight, we may expect improving conditions for tomorrow morning.

“These conditions warrant the continuation of the Heavy Rain Warning and the commencement of the Flood Advisory,” the Met Divison states.

“As the aforementioned system moves further Southwest later tomorrow; improving conditions may persist from tomorrow morning.”

Potential impacts of the heavy downpours are poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges and pooling near roadsides and waterways.

The next Several Weather Information update will be issued at 5 a.m.
