The West Thunder defeated Mulifanua in the fourth quarter of their match in the Veterans Division at the Gym 2 Tuanaimato on Saturday evening.

The Veterans Division is the additional division in the basketball league and it is offered only to the ladies and gentlemen 40 years and over.

The two teams did not fail to disappoint with family members including children cheering on the players from the sideline.

According to West Thunder coach, Salevana Paramore, the competition would be beneficial for the players in terms of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying fit.

"This is a good chance to get out and do something as we oldies cannot keep up with the young ones, and we can't keep up with the speed of the sport so this is a good opportunity for us to play on our own pace and have some exercise," he said.

"It also lowers our level of diabetes.

He added that winning the competition is not their goal but to ultimately have fun and enjoy the game.

"It's not really the spirit of the game, our win is all about having fun. It's just an exercise," he added.

The team was put together when the Samoa Basketball Association announced the new division and they have tried to participate as much as possible.

"It's good that all the 40-plus can come and play and now that we have this division we come together and have a run and of course to have fun," he said.

Their next opponent is yet to be confirmed as the draw will be finalized next week.
