The position of the Commissioner of the Fire and Emergency Services (F.E.S.A.) has been advertised to interested applicants after the service’s former chief resigned to run for Parliament.

The previous Commissioner, Taueva Faafouina Mupo Sauvao, resigned from his job to run in next year’s election.

The former Commissioner is contesting the Aana Alofi No. 1 East constituency against four other candidates.

The Minister of Women, Community and Social Development, Tuitama Dr. Leao Tuitama - who is retiring from politics - endorsed Lelevaga as the official Human Rights Protection candidate for the seat.

The Commissioner’s vacancy was advertised in the Samoa Observer seeking applicants to take over Taueva’s role.

Applicants have three weeks to submit application documents to the Ministry of Public Enterprise office by 11 December.

Government officials were given until 12 October to resign from their posts if they intended to contest next year’s April general election.

Taueva took over the top job at F.E.S.A. in 2013 after his predecessor was fired following an investigation by the Ombudsman.

He had previously served as the Assistant Chief Executive Officer for the fire service.

Taueva has more than 20 years’ experience in the field of emergency services and was a recipient of the United Nations medal for service in 2003.
