Complaint lodged against Deputy Ombudsman
A businessman and former Member of Parliament, Maualaivao Pat Ah Him, has lodged a complaint with the Police against the Deputy Ombudsman, Maualaivao Pepe Seiuli.
The complaint is over an alleged verbal spat between the two men during a village council meeting.
Maualaivao Pat confirmed his complaint when he was contacted by this newspaper but declined to discuss the details noting that the matter is with the Police.
“I have retained a lawyer and we are awaiting word from the Police on the status of the complaint [that was filed in September],” said the businessman.
Asked for a comment, Deputy Ombudsman Maualaivao Seiuli, was reluctant.
“I don’t want to comment on those matters," he said. "It would reflect poorly on the Chiefs [of the village]."
Asked if the Police had visited him, Maualaivao Seiuli said he had told them to leave.
“The cops came and I told them [about] a previous incident where the matter was also taken to Court and was thrown out. What happens in the village should be confined in the village,” he said.
Police and Correction Services Commissioner, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, brushed off questions in relation to the matter on Wednesday when he was approached for comment at Tafa’igata by the Samoa Observer.
Fuiavaili’ili has also not responded to emails seeking an update on the status of the investigation.
