Chiefs want Alan Grey Cup

The Aana Chiefs are travelling to Apia Park today with one goal in mind.

They want to take the Alan Grey Cup with them home.

After 10 weeks of the Bluesky Super 9 tournament, the only team standing in the way of the Chiefs is the defending champions, Taula Eels.

The Eels of Vaimauga and A’ana Chiefs will go head to head today at Apia Park this afternoon.

A’ana Chiefs Team Manager, Taito Louis Lene, said their game plan today is simple. They want to stick to their strengths and play well.

“So far it is going well, we have been preparing for a long time now for this day to come. It has been 10 weeks now. So we feel that we are ready for today,” he said.

“Vaimauga Eels, from our point of view, their games revolve around their forwards. I think last year was the first time for the tournament so those sorts of things that we are now working on.

“Even our first game this year we didn’t do so well and since then there has been an improvement. From that first round game where we lost badly, a lot of changes were made,” Taito said.

He said they have recruited new players including their captain, who was injured last year.

“All of these players are from our district since from last year half of the players didn’t play. There are some players from the Under 20 that has now moved up to the Senior A team.

“Well for every team, there are supposed to be 40 players but we always struggle to keep all of the players for the 10 weeks. Some of them after two or three weeks later they don’t play anymore.

“So for us we have about 28 players we are going to work on for the game. There have been some that are injured and also have got their clubs. For us whatever the result is, we have to keep on working harder year after year.”

Taito is thankful to their sponsors for their continuous support.
