Quietly dedicated student makes parents proud

A 23-year-old graduate from Siusega, Fiaapia Meilan Meredith, has made her family extremely proud.

The young Samoan has just graduated with a Master's of International Business with Merit from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

The youngest daughter of Tiufea Rudy and Meilan Meredith also holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law from the same university.

Ms. Meredith is a former student of Robert Louis Stevenson School. After secondary school, she attended the National University of Samoa.

Speaking about her daughter's achievement, her mother, Mrs. Meredith said they are grateful to God and are proud of what she has achieved.

“She has a quiet personality and yet dedicates her time to doing well in school,” said Mrs. Meredith.

The mother regrets that the COVID-19 global pandemic border closures has stopped her and her husband from travelling to New Zealand for her graduation.

“We are very sad that we could not be there for our daughter’s graduation, to celebrate with her the great achievements she has done which has made us both parents very proud," she said. “But even before this, she has always done well in school; she likes to study hard and sometimes stays awake the whole night to do her studies.

“And because her field is in accounting, I guess she is following her father’s footsteps.”

The proud mother-of-seven said a parent's greatest joy is seeing their children do well in school so that they can have a better future.

“I hope this pandemic finishes soon so that I can see my daughter and spend time with her," she said.

She also acknowledged God for his blessings and guidance upon her child.
