Samoa’s fautasi history books have been rewritten today with the much-anticipated S.J.C. 70th Fautasi Challenge finishing at Vaisigano this afternoon.

While Alfred has claimed the title finishing first, it was the all-female Fautasi o Toa crew that won the loudest applause from the masses on the seawall when they crossed the finish line to claim second place.

It is the first time an all-female crew, captained by the legendary Vaimasenu’u Zita Martel, had taken part in what is usually an all male contest.

The Fautasi o Toa crew was put together only a few weeks ago in response to the challenge. They put up a brave fight from the start until finish but in the end, Alfred found enough energy to claim victory.

Third place went to Dieter, fourth was Marcellin with Darnard finishing last.

This is a developing story.
