Tautua Samoa "confident" for 2021 General Election

Tautua Samoa's  15 candidates nominated for the 2021 election is the smallest amount of candidates they have ever endorsed for a General Election, though, leader Afualo Luagalau Dr. Wood Salele remains confident.

According to the veteran politician, this is the smallest number of candidates the Tautua has ever nominated for an election since its establishment in 2008.

However, it is the most strategic move they have done as a political party.

"I feel good, personally, I feel really good with our 15," he said.

"It's not so much gathering many candidates and end up with [not many] just like the previous election. But now we have focused on candidates that we know their constituencies have nominated personally and have a big chance."

Afualo said their strategic approach to the political race also takes into account the line up of the other political parties as well as their independent party affiliates.

"There are constituencies we know is still very strong on H.R.P.P. and if we do have someone to contest, its fine but that's not our priority. Even with F.A.S.T., we hope for the best for them also, because the goal is to band together after the election," he said.

With the goal of a new government in mind, Afualo is hoping that should about ten or more candidates from Tautua are elected, along with some from the other opposing political parties and independent candidates, it can be achieved.

"I'm a bit quiet [in regards to the election] but I'm quite confident for the upcoming election," he said.

"Even with so many candidates from the ruling party, we aren't shaken. And I know the Prime Minister knows it won't be easy next year."

The Tautua leader said although they aimed for about 17 candidates, having 15 on board is "enough".

"Now we are more focused and it is time to make some noise," he said in a phone interview on Monday.

"It's now easier, finally now that the dust has settled, we are now seeing the picture much clearer. It is now easier to carry out campaigns and such and our resources, so that's a good thing."

Tautua Samoa will be in Savaii next week from November 12, based at the Methodist Hall, Apita Pisaga in Salelologa for two days.

It will be a chance for the six Tautua Samoa candidates in Savaii to greet supporters and promote their long terms plans laid out in their manifesto.

List of candidates from Tautua are:
