F.A.S.T. unveils campaign plans
The election campaign period is open and Fa’atuatua i le Atua o Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) has a plan laid out for both Upolu and Savai'i, starting next week.
Starting next Wednesday to Friday, November 4 to 6, the public will get the chance to greet their candidates running for F.A.S.T. during their three-day campaigning programme next month. It will also be a chance for the public to hear the new party’s long term goals laid out in its manifesto.
F.A.S.T. party leader, La'auli Leuatea Schmidt, confirmed that the party’s candidates running from Savai'i will get the chance to greet and meet their constituencies at the Methodist Apita Pisaga in Salelologa on 4 November.
The Upolu candidates will be available to meet and greet villagers and constituents on 6 November, at the E.F.K.S. Hall at Sogi.
“This will be a chance to formally greet the nation especially the 20 constituencies of Salafai (Savai’i) and 31 constituencies from Upolu,” said La’auli.
“It will be a chance to get together and announce to each constituency their candidates who will be standing in the election.
“There will be a formal dedication in prayer as we shall always thank God first that registrations have been completed and will now promoting our manifesto to all of Samoa.”
During their campaign, F.A.S.T. will also be seeking the blessing of all recognised denominations in Samoa.
“On this day, we aim to lay out our plans but we will not be urging as we will also be collecting opinions from the people with the belief that we should not get ahead of ourselves without returning to the country,” he said.
La'auli also confirmed that F.A.S.T. has a total of 55 candidates running in the 2021 election, despite initially announcing that they will only be endorsing one candidate for each constituency.
On Friday, the Office of the Electoral Commissioner revealed that F.A.S.T. had nominated 50 candidates.
However, Laauli said the rest had chosen to be nominated as independents who are members of the F.A.S.T. party. Former Deputy Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mataafa is one of them.
He said that despite their aim to have one candidate per constituency, on re-evaluation the party has made the decision that there are some constituencies where it is fitting for more than one candidate to run simultaneously.
Laauli also confirmed that there is a possibility of withdrawals before the deadline for constituents, two weeks prior to the election beginning when party line-ups are finalised.
