Puleono's coach, Vaisigano David Masoe, is confident that his team will be up to the task when Island of Origin rugby league clash between Upolu and Savai'i kicks off.

Puleono is scheduled to take on Tumua on Wednesday 4 November 2020, with the clash likely to set the benchmark for future contests.

"The Puleono preparations are going well at the moment," said Vaisigano.

"The challenge for the Puleono squad, is that they need to have more players from the big island to be selected and be a part of the national team."

The clash is part of rugby league's development with the overall goal developing players who are good enough to play professionally.

"Last night (Sunday night) was the grand final for the Storm and Panthers," he said.

"There were lots of Samoan players who were featured in the Panthers squad. That is the challenge for Puleono players, for some of them to make it to a team overseas, and they will the flag-bearer for Samoa.

"That is the destination for all these competitions, so our young generation will have a future to take care of their families, village and church commitments."

The Savaii selection is based in Upolu. Most of them are in Tumua for work, studies and families.

"Most of our team are from Savaii but are living in Upolu because of work and of rugby careers. Our management has not yet selected our squad to take on Tumua, but I believe on Wednesday we will announce the 20 players for the Island of Origin series," he said.
