A heavy rain warning and flood advisory remains in effect for all of Samoa, says the Samoa Meteorology Service as it urges the public to take precaution.

The severe weather bulletin was issued by the S.M.S. on Sunday 5pm [local time] and stated that latest satellite imagery taken Sunday afternoon showed a broad convective cloudband with embedded cloud and rain as well as thunderstorms within the vicinity of Samoa.

“This cloud band is associated with a trough of low pressure located southwest of the islands as it is slowly moving towards the islands with heavy falls possible and thunderstorms,” the bulletin reads.

“Therefore, the heavy rain warning and the flood advisory are still in effect for vulnerable areas.”

The heavy rain advisory remains in effect for all of Samoa and a flood advisory is in place for all major rivers and vulnerable places.

Residents can expect heavy downpour with poor visibility, gusty winds in the rain, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, water pooling near roadsides and waterways may result as long as the low pressure system hangs in the vicinity of the islands.

"An active trough of low pressure analysed west of Samoa associated with a massive cloud band with embedded thunderstorms," added the bulletin.

"This system is forecast to move near the group later in the afternoon with rainfall activities. There is a high probability for heavy falls within the forecast zone for today into tomorrow. These conditions warrant the issuance of the heavy rain warning and flood advisory for the group."
