Olo reveals F.A.S.T. switch
The independent M.P. for Salega No. 2, Olo Fiti Vaai, announced on Wednesday he would be registering as a candidate for Samoa’s newest opposition party.
Olo has registered as a candidate for the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T) political party for next year’s forthcoming April election.
Olo Fiti Vaai was among the candidates to register to stand for Parliament on the second day of the official nomination process of candidates at the Don Bosco Hall in Savai'i on Wednesday.
Olo has been an Independent Member of Parliament and claims that he will remain as an Independent Member until the election in April next year.
He was accompanied by matai from his constituency.
In a brief interview with the Samoa Observer after his nomination, Olo remained firm that he would remain an independent M.P. until the conclusion of the current Parliamentary term.
"I want to make that clear," he told the Samoa Observer.
"[But I have] registered as a F.A.S.T. candidate for the 2021 General Election.
"But I am still an independent Member of Parliament for the rest of this term."
The Electoral Commissioner, Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio, has been approached for comment.
