Public invited to donate clothes for survivors of abuse

A partnership between Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.) and the Samoa Victim Support Group (S.V.S.G.) is inviting members of the public to donate clothes to survivors of abuse.

The charitable project was launched earlier this week after discussions between the two parties on areas that the Group needed assistance with.

The project calls on the public to donate clothes, whether new or second-hand, for children who are victims of various forms of abuse housed at the organisation’s Campus of Hope.

To date, more than a hundred women and children victims have been under the care of S.V.S.G.

The Chief Executive Officer of S.S.A.B., Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, said the children at S.V.S.G. deserve love and support.

“One of their basic needs is clothes, hence the reason behind this joint project,” she said.

Tofilau also stressed that every child deserves to be happy, looked-after, and feel special about themselves.

The S.S.A.B. has put in place a clothes donation box in front of its Megastore at Togafu’afu’a where members of the public who want to help can drop off their clothes.

The President of S.V.S.G., Siliniu Lina Chang, said that they need clothes for the children under their care, as well as others in the community currently receiving S.V.S.G.'s welfare support.

Aside from the joint project, S.S.A.B. has also donated a 15kgs washing machine to S.V.S.G.

Clothes to S.V.S.G. will be delivered fortnightly, but this will also depend on the amount of clothes donated.

Siliniu acknowledged Tofilau’s heart and the continued support for charity work involving S.V.S.G.

S.S.A.B. also continues its stance to promote awareness on ending violence against women and children through another partnership with the S.V.S.G. focusing on the economic empowerment of women.
