A handover ceremony of a computer lab with twenty computers and one teaching platform from the government of China for Aana No. 2 College was held yesterday at Apolima-uta.

This donation is a part of the ongoing support by Huizhou City to the Education sector in Samoa.

Chief Executive Officer of M.E.S.C, Afamasaga Dr. Karoline Fuatai, referred to a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture in November 2015 to support education in Samoa.

The electronic learning equipment will enable the students and teachers of Aana No. 2 College, to carry out research, use e-resources from the SchoolNet e-library and organize for presentations.

Ambassador of China to Samoa, Wang Xuefeng, said the tools will also help students get into contact with the outside world.

But that’s not the only help Aana No. 2 College has received from the Embassy of China. Two Chinese volunteers are currently teaching at the school.

“I believe they must have spent a good time with the teachers and students here and some of you must have learnt some Chinese,” said Mr. Xuefeng.

“I hope all the students study hard and hopefully go to China to pursue further study with Chinese government scholarship.”

Mr. Xuefeng said China is always happy to support the education of children in Samoa.

“We will continue to push forward the exchange and cooperation in the field of education between China and Samoa.”

Aana No. 2 College Principal, Iemaima Tiumalu, expressed her sincere thanks to the Chinese Embassy for their assistance. She is hopeful that China can fund air condition units for their computer lab for that  the computers will not be easily damaged.
