Bringing JAZZ to Samoa

Looking for an entertaining place to go on Sunday afternoon?

Look no further, the Tiapapata Art Centre which will soon be screening the film series, JAZZ. 

JAZZ is a 10- part film series by Ken Burns.  

It celebrates the greatest original art form from America.  

JAZZ celebrates America’s greatest original art form. The series opens at the dawn of the 20th century, incorporating American culture and historical events that interact directly with the music. From the 1890s through the ferment of the Harlem Renaissance and the Jazz Age, to the Great Depression, New Deal, Second World War, and beyond, JAZZ paints an astounding portrait of a nation and its improvisational core of music events that interact directly with the music.

The film series will kick off at 4pm this Sunday with Episode 1 titled, “Gumbo”  which explores the origins of jazz in New Orleans.  

The Tiapapata Art Centre is a hub for art in Samoa.  Wendy and Galumalemana Steven Percival, have been proudly serving Samoa for over 25 years through providing a special space for artists to thrive. 

The Centre is a charitable trust established to promote traditional and contemporary arts and crafts in Samoa

The vision of the Art centre is to become “a model art school fostering creative excellence in Samoa and the Pacific.”

It aims to provide a learning environment that facilitates the achievement of educational, professional and personal goals of students, artists in residence and teaching staff in an atmosphere that fosters creativity, diversity and innovation.

Tickets for the showing: $10 for Adults and $5 (

All proceeds will go to the Samoana Jazz & Arts Festival
