Coroner to rule on case of baby dumped at sea
An inquiry into the death of a baby, which was found floating off the coast of Lauli'i last year, is pending in the Coronial Court with a ruling to be made on the cause of death.
The case of the deceased male infant, which was listed under the title “Baby X- Lauli'i” on the inquest matters listing, will be presided over by the Coroner and District Court Judge, Alalatoa Rosella Viane-Papali'i, this week.
The case was not called on Monday but is one of several matters listed for the Coroner’s deliberations.
In August last year, villagers of Lauli'i discovered the body of the deceased male infant floating at sea at Lauli’i.
At the time, the village mayor confirmed that the village had searched each home in the area to find if any child is unaccounted, but to no avail.
The body of the deceased infant was buried at the Tafa'igata cemetery after a funeral service organised by the Samoa Police Service and local resident Fesilafa’i Aumaga.
The deceased male infant was given the name Tautai because he was found at sea.
