Head of State endorses La'auli's win

The Head of State, His Highness, Tuimaleali'ifano Va'aletoa Sualauvi II, has endorsed La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt as the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Gagaifomauga No.3 constituency.

A Warrant of Election for La'auli's election was issued and signed on Monday, 31 August 2020, by the Head of State at Vailele.

"Pursuant to Section 84 (2) of the Electoral Act 2019, I, Tuimaleali'ifano Va'aletoa Sualauvi II, Head of State, do hereby declare and issue this Warrant of Election to the person name herein to serve as a Member of Parliament of the Independent State of Samoa: Laauli Polataivao Leuatea," the warrant stated.

The warrant was issued by the Office of the Electoral Commission on Monday afternoon.

The seat for Gagaifomauga No.3 was declared vacant by the Speaker of the House, Leaupepe Toleafoa Fa'afisi, following a verbal resignation by veteran Parliamentarian, La'auli in July.

Following his resignation from Parliament, he established and registered a political party, Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) which triggered a by-election for the Gagaifomauga No.3 constituency.

The by-election took place last week on Friday where La'auli defeated an independent candidate from Aopo, Fa'aulusau Simi Laulua.

Following his landslide re-election to Parliament on Friday, La'auli made history as the first-ever Member Parliament to enter Samoa's Parliamentary sitting as a F.A.S.T. member.
