M.P. Faumuina awaits 'divine whisper'
Independent Member of Parliament for Urban West, Faumuina Wayne Fong, is waiting for a “divine whisper” about which political party he will contest the 2021 General Election under.
Faumuina became an Independent M.P. two months ago after he was booted out of the ruling Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) over allegations that he “betrayed” the party.
The M.P. followed La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt out of the H.R.P.P. after Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi accused him of joining the party to gain benefits.
“I will wait for the divine whisper,” Faumuina said, when asked by the Samoa Observer if he will change allegiance to join the Fa’atuatua ile Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) party founded and led by La’auli.
Meanwhile, Faumuina said he wants to congratulate La’auli on being reelected to represent the Gagaifomauga no3 constituency following Friday’s by-election.
La’auli is the first M.P. to have entered parliament under the newly established F.A.S.T. party.
“I commend him and his patience for fighting through this [the by-election],” said Faumuina.
“His cycle is almost complete with entering Parliament under the F.A.S.T. banner and I acknowledge the support of his constituency that has shown their continuous support for him…”
Faumuina, La’auli and the Independent M.P. for Salega East, Olo Fiti Vaai, have been described as a “party of three” by the Prime Minister.
Tuilaepa had challenged the three to return to their constituency for a by-election so that their electorates could decide their fate if they should return to parliament under a different political party.
