Digital Teuila Festival to toast Samoa's charm

A digital programme commemorating 30 years of the Teuila Festival is planned as a replacement for the usual festival events this year, such as the Miss Samoa Pageant.

The programme will be designed to celebrate ‘Beautiful Samoa’ and its unique allure and charm.

On Sunday, 30 August, the pre-recorded 30th Annual Teuila Festival will open with a word of prayer from Reverend Isaia Kalepo, of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (C.C.C.S.) at Leauva'a.

The keynote address will be delivered by Minister of Tourism, Sala Fata Pinati.

The ten best choir performances from previous years will be featured during a  Choir Exhibition. The Sunday programme will begin at 6pm and Rev. Kalepo will deliver a closing prayer. 

Highlights from 30 years of the Teuila Festival will be shown on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 pm..

The best of the past cultural entertainment, longboat canoe racing, Samoan comedy (Faleaitu), floral parades and variety shows will also be broadcast on Monday and Tuesday.

The 2019 Miss Samoa Pageant will be shown on Wednesday night; the 2019 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant airs on Thursday night.

Both crowns are currently held by Fonoifafo Nancy McFarland-Seumanu.

A concert from Della and Lagi and special events to benefit the Samoa Victims Support Group (S.V.S.G.) and Goshen Mental Health Trust will be held at different locations throughout Teuila Week.

An Apia City Run is scheduled for 5.30 pm on Wednesday at Taumeasina Island Resort.

Le Manumea Hotel will hold a Teuila Special Island Night cultural show on Thursday.

Hotels across Samoa are offering special Teuila accommodation and drink special packages for the event.

The Digicel Teuila Festival – A Night Out With the Stars - a series of community events held to benefit the S.V.S.G. will take place at Lava Hotel on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, Taumeasina will host the Sina Extravaganza featuring Cindy of Samoa, Brown Girl Woke and performers from the Samoa Performing Arts and Creative Excellence.

Also on Friday, Le Vasa Resort hosts Teuila Festival Night.

Hotel Millenia is offering nightly karaoke.

Soroptimist Samoa Ladies will host a curry and wine evening at Olivia’s Casual Accommodation on Friday.

There will be a Snorkeling Night at Matareva Beach Fales in Lefaga on Friday and Saturday.

Markets at Matareva Beach Fales Local market will be selling fresh organic vegetables, plants, and different handmade items. 

The village youth group will be present to showcase and sell their local products from their community organic farm and other handicrafts. There is Coral Gardening at Matareva Beach Fales on Saturday.

The 11th Samoa Perimeter Relay takes place on Saturday. The event starts from Sinalei Resort and finishes in Apia. A Perimeter Relay Beach Party at Sinalei will commemorate the completion of the 'Samoa Perimeter Relay which will benefit the 'Goshen Mental Health Trust’.

The Della and Lagi LIVE Concert is on Saturday at the R.(O).S.A. Nightclub and Bar. They will perform their hits ‘Sili ai lena’, ‘Ana ou iloaina’, ‘Auro Le Alofa’, ‘Suga, Le Mafai ni Lagona Goto ai pea le La’ and ‘Ioe pe leai’. The concert will be hosted by Su’a Hesed Ieremia and will feature D.J. Magic.

On Sunday, the Orator Hotel is putting on a Teuila Sunday Toonai Buffet at 12 pm.
