Former Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, will be heading back to the Attorney General's Office to assist the Criminal Division as a consultant after the head of the Prosecution team, Magele Leone Su'a-Mailo resigned.

Contacted for a comment, Aumua declined, referring all queries to the Attorney General, Savalenoa Mareva Betham-Annandale.

The former Attorney General has been running a private practice, Aumua Law Firm, since he exited the public office. He was succeeded by Lemalu Hermann Retzlaff, who had resigned at the beginning of the year.

Savalenoa did not respond to follow-up emails from the Samoa Observer on Thursday and Friday.

A reliable source confirmed reports that Aumua has been asked to work as a consultant with the Attorney General’s Office prosecution team pending a new replacement for Magele.

Prior to her resignation, Magele had clocked close to 15 years of service in the Attorney General’s Office prosecuting over 800 cases during her tenure.

She was the lead prosecutor for high profiled cases such as Kolani Junior Lam, Peter Tulaga and was recently working on the case including several men accused of plotting the assassination of the Prime Minister.

The matter which is pending in Court involves King Faipopo also known as Malele Paulo, Faioso Sione and Talalelei Pauga who is in Australia and pending his extradition.
