Family appeal for missing girl to return home
The family of a 15-year-old girl who went missing a fortnight ago has appealed to her to return home as they are worried about her condition.
Tuimatalililila Lematau Kitione, who is also known as Josephine Kitione, went missing on 15 August 2020, which compelled the Police to also issue a statement seeking her whereabouts on Tuesday this week.
“The 15-year-old was last seen on Saturday 15th of August 2020 at 9.30am leaving her family at Magiagi for training at Pesega College. She is currently attending Pesega College. According to her family she was last seen wearing a black shirt and black sarong (ie lavalava),” stated the Police statement.
“Samoa Police, Prison and Correction Service seeks the assistance of the general public for information that might lead to her whereabouts.”
The missing girl’s older brother, Jefferey Kitione, told the Samoa Observer that they are worried as his sister has a heart condition and there are unconfirmed reports of her involvement in local gangs.
“She had never given us any reason in our relationship to make us suspect that she might be with a boy or anything like that,” Mr. Kitione said in an interview.
“My parents kept scolding her for sleeping over at her girlfriends’ houses or our relatives’ without letting them know. But at the end of the day, we will always be informed of her whereabouts but this is the first time she’s missing like this.
“Wherever you are sis, come back home. Our home is not the same anymore and mom and dad are really worried about you.
“We just want to know if she’s alive because the worst part is she has a heart disease so we’re unsure if she’s alive or not.”
Asked about the reports of her link with local gangs, Mr. Kitione said it’s the first time his family heard of the report.
“Some people told us about it [link with gangs] which is more of a reason for us to worry about her. It’s been 10 days and we’re really distraught,” he added.
Ms. Kitione is a Year 10 student at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [LDS] Pesega College.
