The Home of the Elderly at Mapuifagalele was the recipient of an unexpected $6,000 donation on Saturday morning.

The donation was courtesy of Pinati Bernard Williams and friends in New Zealand, who collected $5,200 cash through fundraising with the other $800 coming from Pacificezy to make it a total of $6,000.

Sister Alosia told the Samoa Observer in a phone interview that they did not know much about the donation and surprisingly got a call from Mr. Williams, who advised of the fundraising in New Zealand and that money will be sent through Pacificezy.

“We were thankful to God for the donation and may God bless him for his contribution," Sister Alosia said in a phone interview.

Sister Alosia further stated that the donation will be used to pay for much needed items for the aged care facility, such as paying the bills and food needed for the residents.

She stated that the residents of Mapuifagalele were thankful and happy for the donation that they have received.

Earlier last week the aged care facility restricted visitors due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in New Zealand.

Sister Alosia explained that this was done due to the advice of their doctor and that the residents will miss their family but the decision was made for their protection.

The residents of the aged care facility are still happy despite the security lockdown, according to Sister Alosia, and those who want to make donations to the home are still free to contact them.
