Tau Samurai Samatau has defended the shield in the Tag tournament mixed division, beating Tau Shakers, 8-5.

Samurai Samatau showed precision in their play and were a lot more clinical to run out the winners from the clash.

The President of Samoa Tag, Fa'aofonu'u Junior Leota, said Samurai Samatau's performance was a pleasure to watch as it typified the raising of the bar in terms of the domestic tag competition.

Some 14 teams are involved in the competition. There are eight in the mixed division with six in the men's division.

The Men's shield is with the Tau Warriors.

"The competition is in full swing," Fa'aofonu'u said.

"We've seen great improvements from all the teams that are competing. Some of the old teams are showing more potential and the new teams are really showing more interest in the sports itself.

"We will continue to promote the sport as this is one of the appropriate sports for both men and women, as it is a safe sport."

The mixed team competition is made up of Tau Samurai Samatau, Tau Cruisers, Tau Apia Maroons, Tau Meet Me Outside, Tau Warriors, Tau Avengers, Tau Letics and Tau Shakers.

The Men's team includes the Tau Drifters, Tau Originals, Tau Bulldogs, Tau Apia Maroons, Tau Shakers and Tau Warriors.
