Fire Commissioner eyes seat in Parliament
The Commissioner of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (F.E.S.A.), Taueva Fa'afouina Mupo, is looking at a change of career.
The man entrusted to run search and rescue operations and to save lives is eyeing a seat in Parliament in next year's General Election.
That constituency is A'ana Alofi No.1 East whose current M.P. is the Minister for Women Community and Social Development, Tuitama Dr. Leao Talalelei Tuitama.
Taueva registered last week to fly the Human Rights Protection Party flag. He was accompanied by matai from the village of Faleasi'u.
He did not want to comment on his candidacy or speak about his preparations and plans for the election.
When contacted by the Samoa Observer yesterday, Taueva said he was attending an important meeting that will go on for three days.
Taueva has more than 20 years’ experience in fire and emergency services and was a recipient of the United Nations medal for service in 2003.
• This article originally reported that Taueva Fa'afouina Mupo is running for the "A'ana Alofi No.1 constituency occupied by Speaker of Parliament and veteran M.P., Leaupepe Toleafoa Fa'afisi". But that is incorrect. Taueva will contest the A'ana Alofi No.1 East seat currently occupied by the Minister for Women Community and Social Development, Tuitama Dr. Leao Talalelei Tuitama. The Speaker is the current M.P. for the A'ana Alofi No.1 West seat.
