Lefaga tops candidate registration

The electoral constituency of Lefaga and Faleaseela has topped the number of candidates contesting in the 2021 general election attracting six contenders so far with only one female.

Similar to the 2016 election, the electoral constituency had the most number of candidates rounding up six runners at the time alongside Alataua West and Anoama’a East constituency.

It is possible the number of candidates for the Lefaga and Faleaseela seat could increase before the nomination date in October opens. 

The six candidates have all signed up to flag the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) banner next year including Incumbent Member of Parliament, Toleafoa Ken Poutoa. 

The sole female candidate from the seat is the wife of a late church minister and businesswoman that operates the TV Bingo, Lemalu Kuinimeri Tamati. 

Lemalu is one of only three women candidates running for H.R.P.P. that have recently declared their intention to contest in the election.  

The other two female is former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa, Maugaoalii Faamanu Mualia vying for Vaimauga no4 seat and lawyer Leota Tima Leavai competing in the Falealupo seat. 

Another candidate for Lefaga seat is the son of Council of Deputy and pharmacist, Lemalu Mathew Mualia who is also the brother of Maugaoalii. 

Businessman and owner of Traditional Resort, Su’a Tanielu Faiaoga is running again as well as former N.U.S. Vice Chancellor, Professor Fui Asofou Soo who has thrown his name in the hat. 

Kaisara Real Estate Owner, I’a Sa’u Kaisara is another runner up for the Lefaga seat. 

The electoral constituency of Lefaga and Faleaseela that consist of the villages of Gagaifolevao, Matautu, Matafa’a, Safaatoa, Savaia, Tafagamanu Tanumalala and Vaiama has an estimate roll of 3600 voters.
