The Government’s Meteorology Division has forecast heavy rain and windy conditions to continue with a small craft advisory still in effect for all coastal to open waters.

A weather update issued on Saturday by the Meteorology Division, which is part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment [MNRE], pointed to a convergence zone that lies within the vicinity of Samoa and has been associated recently with the rain and gusty winds embedded with thunderstorms.

Consequently, the Division advised that a small craft advisory remains in effect for all coastal to open waters of Samoa, according to the "Severe Weather Information Number Two - Intense High-Pressure System" issued by the Division.

“The system is expected to remain over the Islands, providing rainy and windy weather conditions for today,” stated the advistory. "An intense high-pressure system to the North of New Zealand directs moderate to fresh southeast winds over Samoa and impacts coastal to open waters with wind waves and swells of 2.5 – 3 meters."

With a heavy rain advisory also issued for all of Samoa, the Division has advised that the potential impact would be heavy downpour with poor visibility, gusty winds and fog.

Other Other potential impacts include slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides, and overflowing river banks and waterways.
