Samoa can expect an unusually wet weekend, due to an active convergence zone positioned just south of the country, the Samoa Meteorological Service forecasts.

In an advisory issued late on Friday, the Met Office said there is an active convergence zone positioned just to the south of Samoa.

Associated rain and thunderstorms are forecast to provide wet and gusty weather conditions at times for the island.

This system is expected to shift northward again over the forecast zone with intensifying rainfall on Saturday.

A heavy rain warning and flood advisory will remain active for all of Samoa.

For Saturday night periods of rain can be expected, including brief heavy falls along with gusty winds and thunderstorms, then becoming frequent by tomorrow afternoon.

Forecast impact include: heavy downpours with poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and overflowing river banks and waterways.
