The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi’s Cup will be up for grabs at the ACP Marist Stadium Lotopa when the final of the Vailima King of Tens tournament kicks off.

The final was postponed from March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic State of Emergency lockdown.

According to the Union, eight teams from four Union Clubs, Marist St. Josephs, Lepea Village, Malie Sharks and Taufusi Eels, will vie for the trophy.

“Players from neighbouring villages in the Faleata District have been allocated to each of these teams to ensure a high calibre of players in each position across the field and intense competition for quality display of rugby and professional development of individuals in rugby,” a statement from the Union said.

“The tournament in its third week running has Marist St Joseph’s 1 leading the ranks followed by Lepea Village 1.”

Saturday’s tournament will also see the introduction of children’s rugby games in the boys division for Marist Sports Academy, Under 10, 12 & 15.

“These are young players from around the area and it is open to other young children who wish to join Marist Sports Academy. The initiative is in support of the Samoa Rugby Union development goals for this age group.”

The Prime Minister’s Cup was donated by Tuilaepa himself, who is the Patron of the Faleata Rugby Union.

He is also expected to present the trophy.
