Constable enters guilty plea
A policeman has pleaded guilty in connection to an assault case and will be sentenced by the District Court next month.
Constable Silivelio Luifaitaua was charged in April this year and pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before the District Court last Friday.
He has also been suspended from duty and stood down as a member of the Police Tactical Operation Squad.
The charges are related to an assault incident which occured while he was off duty. He will be sentenced on July 3.
Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili'ili Egon Keil, told the Samoa Observer earlier that Constable Luifaitaua has represented the Samoa Police Service at local and international forums and is a strong officer.
“But unfortunately he made an error of judgement resulting in his arrest for assault stemming from an off duty incident and with normal practice, has been suspended from duty until his matter is resolved,” Fuiavaili'ili added.
Attempts by the Samoa Observer to get comments from the suspended policeman were unsuccessful.
