A strong wind advisory is in effect for all of Samoa as the Samoa Meteorology Division warns that the bad weather will persist until Thursday. 

The Principal Scientific Officer at the Meterology Division, Silipa Mulitalo, said they have put out the advisory and acknowledged that the strong winds will decrease by Thursday or Friday.

He said the public has been alerted to monitor waves and swells especially fishermen and particularly on Monday. 

"We also put out a forecast for Independence day where the increase of winds are mentioned and the very high chance of heavy rainfall and waves. Winds were strong which is what we experienced yesterday (Monday),” he told the Samoa Observer. "It will persist for this week but it will start to decrease towards Thursday or Friday. Wind advisory still remains for small crafts."

According to the Meteorology Division’s forecast, the conditions will persist until Thursday as the high-pressure system slowly migrates eastward. Waves and swell activities as of Tuesday morning remained within the range of 2-5-3-5 meters.

No flash floods have been recorded after the heavy rain on Monday, added Mr. Mulitalo who emphasised that it is normal to receive this type of weather during the dry season, as weather like this would happen once or twice during the months similar to the weather last weekend.

Mr. Mulitalo said there are also chances for thunderstorms between now and Thursday.
