A.G. Office mum on Associate Minister probe
The Attorney General’s Office remains mum on the criminal investigation “file” forwarded to their office on a Police investigation against Associate Minister So’oalo Mene.
Last month, the Police Commissioner, Fuiavailili Egon Keil, confirmed the Associate Minister for the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration is the subject of a criminal investigation.
But the status of the file reviewed by the Attorney General’s office is unclear. Repeated emails sent to the Acting Attorney General, Galumalemana Loretta Teueli, have been unanswered for two weeks.
“We do have an investigation on the Associate Minister," the Commissioner said last month.
"The file is currently at the Attorney General’s office for review."
The Commissioner refused to comment on the nature of the investigation: “The allegation that came to our office is serious because it is now a Police matter and it involves an Associate Minister.
“It’s usually my policy when it involves someone high up in Government we get a second opinion from the Attorney General’s office on [the case].”
To date So’oalo, who is the Member of Parliament from Gagaifomauga Nu. 2, refused to comment on the allegations against him.
