President's Tournament marks the return of golf

With the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions on non-contact sport last weekend, the Royal Samoa Country Club were able to host their President's Tournament at the Fagali'i course on Saturday.

At least 30 people had registered for the tournament midway through the day's play, and club captain Safai Iosua Selesele said the turnout was a good start, with great spirit being shown.

“As a club we needed the support, green fees," he said.

While the state of emergency meant no golf could be played, severely limiting revenue for the club, Safai said they didn't have to lay off any of the 10 local staff who maintain the course.

He said the first week back for golf was a good one for the club:

“People were eager to come and play again, it’s good exercise too."

Safai welcomed everyone to come along for a round.

“Enjoy the fellowship, make friends here and do exercise," he said.

“We hope a lot more youth will join up and enjoy golf."

Final results for the tournament were not available at press time.
