Immunization week wraps up

A week-long Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) program to promote the importance of immunisation has concluded with prizes awarded for awareness raising.

The celebration of this year's World Immunisation Week revolved around the theme, "Vaccines work for all" and was launched by Minister of Health, Faimalatoa Kika Stowers late last month.

This year's theme highlighted how people who develop, deliver and receive vaccines are heroes in terms of for working to protect everyone's health.


A number of activities, as part of the campaign to encourage the vaccination of children as protection from diseases, were unveiled. 

Tuasivi Hospital in Savai'i also celebrated World Immunization Week through their decorations and giveaways for the children getting their vaccination.

Miss Samoa & Miss Pacific Islands, Fonoifafo Mcfarland Seumanu, also played a big part in the celebration by lending a hand at the EPI Unit at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital. 

She had also handed out gifts donated by Brown Girl Woke to children getting their vaccines. 


Some of the activities included a TikTok competition and a book cover design competition to raise awareness. 

The week-long commemoration was wrapped up yesterday with a prize-giving ceremony where the winners for both competitions were announced  

The Ministry received 13 entries and numerous TikTok video entries and thanked everyone who participated in both competitions. This will pave the way for the use of talent and skills to raise awareness on immunization.


Winner for book cover design competition received $1000 cash prize plus an immunisation communication package while the TikTok winner with the most shares and likes on Facebook won a $400 gift voucher from Business System Limited plus an immunization communication package.

Consolation Prizes: Hannah Sulufaiga, Faaiu Samania, Quennie Milford & Mulan Toso
