The last day for voters wanting to vote in next year's General Elections to register will be 9 October 2020, according to the Office of the Electoral Commissioner.

Citizens can register to vote by submitting their registration forms to the Commission offices in the Samoa National Provident Fund Plaza on Level 1.

Using the election phone app, Palota Samoa, citizens can also pre-register (before visiting the office to complete the registration) check their details and read up on candidates as they are confirmed.

Pre-registration can save time at the office and speed up the process of registration, Electoral Commissioner Faimalomatumua Matthew Lemisio said.

The dates set give Samoans just over five months to register and make sure their vote is counted come April 2021.

All candidates seeking to stand for election can be nominated between Monday 12 October to Friday 23 October, after which the campaign period begins.

Midnight on Sunday 4 April marks the end of campaigning, five days before the General Election on Friday 9 April.

There are four political parties in the running.

They include the Human Rights Protection Party, Tautua Samoa Party, Samoa First Political Party and the Samoa National Democratic Party, who have yet to reveal how many and which seats they will contest next year.
